A Comprehensive Guide For The Steps Of Liposuction Surgery

Are you considering liposuction surgery to achieve your desired body contour? Do you wonder about the procedure of liposuction surgery?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess fat from the body. This procedure involves a comprehensive process that extends beyond the actual surgery day. To gain a complete understanding, let's begin at the very beginning. In this comprehensive guide, we will walk you through each step of the liposuction surgery.

The Initial Consultation:

The initial step in your liposuction journey is consultation with a well-qualified plastic surgeon. During this crucial phase, you'll get a discussion about your desired goals, concerns, and past medical history with the surgeon. Your surgeon will assess your eligibility for the procedure, evaluate your specific problem areas, and recommend the most suitable liposuction.

Additionally, If you have any queries regarding the procedure and cost, it will be addressed by your surgeon.

Preparing for Surgery:

Once you finalize to go with a liposuction procedure, your surgeon will guide you through the necessary preparations. Before the surgery, we prioritize your safety by conducting lab tests, including a blood report, to identify any primary conditions that may pose risks. We can also suggest instructions such as fasting.  You must follow these guidelines carefully to ensure a safe and successful surgery.

Anesthesia and Incision Placement:

On the day of the surgery, you will give a small dose of sedatives to ensure comfort and relaxation throughout the procedure. Your surgeon will then mark the treatment areas with a marker and make a small, discreet incision near the target areas. These incisions are strategic to minimize the scarring and allow optimal fat removal from the body.

It is important to note that you must arrange for transportation home after the surgery, as driving yourself is not permitted. Making transportation arrangements before your scheduled surgical date is highly recommended.

The fat removal surgical procedure:

Liposuction employs various techniques to remove unwanted fat deposits.

  • Once you're settling on the operating table, the surgeon will proceed with cleansing the surgical area ensuring a sterile surface.
  • Firstly, a small dose of a local anesthetic and adrenaline will inject into the targeted areas.  It will help to numb the area, shrink blood vessels, and remove fat. Using a small circular punch (typically 2 mm in size), Your surgeon will insert a small, thin tube, called a cannula, into the incisions to suction out the excess fat from the body.
  • Through these small incisions, the surgeon will insert a surgical instrument to slowly infuse the fat layer with a solution called a tumescent solution. It will help the treated area swell, resembling a water balloon, and become completely numb.
  • Once the tumescent solution infuses and the area is fully numb, the procedure can commence. If your surgeon utilizes a laser liposuction device, they must administer the laser treatment before the suctioning. The laser treatment helps break up fat cells and heat the skin, stimulating collagen formation and tightening the skin for improved post-treatment appearance. It may take up to six months to observe the full results of the laser treatment.
  • Following the laser treatment, the suction process will begin. Your surgeon typically employs a 3 mm cannula, allowing for precise sculpting of the area. The fat, along with the tumescent solution, will be gradually suctioned out into specialized containers until the desired results are coming.
  • During the fat removal procedure, your surgeon will use the cannula to sculpt and contour the treated areas to ensure a harmonious and proportionate result.

Closing Incisions and Recovery:

Once the fat removal is complete, your incisions will cover with gauze and tape. It is possible to experience some temporary drainage from the incision sites to collect any excess fluid or blood. You may need to change the bandages when you return home, and proper rest will provide you with the necessary supplies for recovery.

You will give specific post-operative instructions regarding medication, compression garments, and follow-up appointments. It is crucial to follow all the given instructions by your surgeon, as it contributes to achieving consistent results.

Post-Operative Recovery and Outcome:

Recovery from liposuction surgery varies for each individual. Following the procedure, you will have a follow-up appointment scheduled for the next business day. You may experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort, which can be manageable with prescribed pain medication and proper care.

You must schedule follow-up appointments two weeks and three months after the procedure. During these appointments, your surgeon will assess your progress and guide you when you can safely return to work and resume exercise.

In most cases, It's important to gradually resume normal activities and avoid strenuous exercise during the initial recovery period. Your surgeon will provide specific instructions tailored to your case, ensuring a smooth recovery process.

As the swelling subsides, you will notice improvements in your body contour, with final results typically visible within a few months.
